In 1991 before I briefly worked with the Wayane leaders, I told them in an open encounter that, if they wanted to be seriously consistent, they must regard Imam Ahmad Gran ( Imam Ahmad ibn al-Ghazi) as one of Ethiopian historical figures and not an enemy of Ethiopia.
